Hydroxyprogesterone acetate
Hydroxyprogesterone acetate (HPA) is a steroid and progestin medication which was developed but never marketed. It is the acetate ester of hydroxyprogesterone and was first synthesized in 1953.

Hydroxyprogesterone acetate, also known as 17α-hydroxyprogesterone acetate, is a synthetic pregnane steroid and a derivative of progesterone. It is specifically a derivative of 17α-hydroxyprogesterone, and is a member of the progestin class of hormones.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
As a progestin, hydroxyprogesterone acetate has progestogenic activity and can inhibit gonadotropin secretion from the pituitary gland. It does not have estrogenic, androgenic, glucocorticoid, or mineralocorticoid activity.
History[edit | edit source]
Hydroxyprogesterone acetate was first synthesized in 1953, but was never marketed. It is not currently available for medical use.
