Iced Vovo
Iced VoVo is a popular biscuit in Australia produced by Arnott's Biscuits. A sweet biscuit with a distinctive design, it has been a staple of Australian snack foods since its introduction in 1906.
History[edit | edit source]
The Iced VoVo was first registered as a trademark by Arnott's Biscuits in 1906. The biscuit has remained largely unchanged in its over 100 years of production, with only minor alterations to its recipe and design. The Iced VoVo has become an iconic Australian food item, and is often associated with traditional Australian culture.
Description[edit | edit source]
The Iced VoVo biscuit consists of a wheat flour biscuit base topped with a strip of pink fondant on either side. The centre of the biscuit is filled with a strip of raspberry jam, and the entire biscuit is sprinkled with desiccated coconut. The combination of the sweet fondant and jam with the texture of the coconut provides a unique taste experience.
Cultural Significance[edit | edit source]
The Iced VoVo has a significant place in Australian culture. It has been mentioned in various forms of media and literature, often as a symbol of Australian identity. In 2007, then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd famously mentioned the Iced VoVo in his election victory speech, further cementing its status as an iconic Australian snack.
