Interstate 80 (I-80) is a major transcontinental Interstate Highway in the United States, stretching from San Francisco, California to Teaneck, New Jersey. It is the second-longest Interstate Highway in the United States, following Interstate 90. I-80 is a critical component of the Interstate Highway System, facilitating cross-country travel and commerce.

Route description[edit | edit source]

I-80 begins at an interchange with U.S. Route 101 in San Francisco, California. It crosses the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge and continues through the Sacramento Valley and the Sierra Nevada mountains. The highway then traverses the states of Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania before reaching its eastern terminus in Teaneck, New Jersey.

In California, I-80 passes through major cities such as Sacramento and Oakland. It is a vital corridor for both local and long-distance traffic.

Nevada[edit | edit source]

In Nevada, I-80 runs through the northern part of the state, including the city of Reno. The highway follows the path of the historic California Trail.

Utah[edit | edit source]

In Utah, I-80 passes through the Great Salt Lake Desert and the city of Salt Lake City. It intersects with Interstate 15 in Salt Lake City.
