The journal was established in 1911 as the American Journal of Diseases of Children and obtained its current title in 2013.
History[edit]
The journal was originally founded in 1911 under the name American Journal of Diseases of Children. It was one of the first journals dedicated to the field of pediatrics, reflecting the growing recognition of pediatrics as a distinct medical specialty. In 1994, the journal was renamed Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine. In 2013, it became JAMA Pediatrics as part of a rebranding of the JAMA Network journals.
Scope and Content[edit]
JAMA Pediatrics publishes original research, reviews, and editorials on a wide range of topics related to child health. This includes studies on pediatric diseases, health policy, and the social determinants of health. The journal aims to improve the health and well-being of children and adolescents by disseminating high-quality research and fostering discussion among pediatricians and other healthcare professionals.
Editorial Leadership[edit]
The current editor-in-chief is Dimitri A. Christakis, a prominent figure in pediatric research. Under his leadership, the journal has continued to publish influential studies that impact clinical practice and health policy.
Impact and Influence[edit]
JAMA Pediatrics is highly regarded in the field of pediatrics, with an impact factor of 16.193 as of 2022. It is ranked among the top journals in pediatrics and is widely read by pediatricians, researchers, and policymakers.
Access and Publication[edit]
The journal is published monthly and offers a hybrid open access model, allowing authors to choose to make their articles freely available to the public. This model supports the dissemination of research findings to a broader audience, including clinicians, researchers, and the general public.
