Jacob Chansley, also known as Jake Angeli, is an American conspiracy theorist and activist who gained widespread attention for his involvement in the 2021 United States Capitol attack. He is often referred to as the "QAnon Shaman" due to his distinctive attire and vocal support for the QAnon conspiracy theory.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Jacob Chansley was born on July 1, 1988, in Phoenix, Arizona. Little is known about his early life and education. He later adopted the pseudonym "Jake Angeli" and became involved in various conspiracy theories and activism.

Activism and Beliefs[edit | edit source]

Chansley is a prominent supporter of the QAnon conspiracy theory, which alleges that a secret cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles is running a global child sex-trafficking ring and plotting against former President Donald Trump. He has been a frequent participant in protests and rallies supporting QAnon and other far-right causes.

2021 United States Capitol Attack[edit | edit source]

On January 6, 2021, Chansley was one of the rioters who stormed the United States Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 United States presidential election. He was easily recognizable due to his unique outfit, which included a horned fur hat, face paint, and a bare chest adorned with tattoos. His image quickly became one of the most iconic representations of the attack.

Arrest and Charges[edit | edit source]

Following the Capitol attack, Chansley was arrested on January 9, 2021, and charged with several federal offenses, including violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. He was held in custody and later pleaded guilty to obstructing an official proceeding.

Incarceration[edit | edit source]

Chansley was sentenced to 41 months in prison on November 17, 2021. His sentence was one of the longest given to any of the Capitol rioters at that time. During his incarceration, Chansley requested a diet that adhered to his shamanic beliefs, which was granted by the court.

Media Coverage[edit | edit source]

Jacob Chansley's involvement in the Capitol attack and his distinctive appearance have made him a subject of extensive media coverage. He has been featured in numerous news articles, documentaries, and discussions about the rise of conspiracy theories and domestic extremism in the United States.
