Jeff Bezos
Jeff Bezos (born January 12, 1964) is an American entrepreneur, media proprietor, investor, and commercial astronaut. He is best known as the founder, executive chairman, and former president and CEO of Amazon, the world's largest online retailer. Bezos is also the founder of Blue Origin, a space exploration company, and the owner of The Washington Post.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His mother, Jacklyn Gise Jorgensen, was a teenager at the time of his birth, and his father, Ted Jorgensen, was a bike shop owner. After his parents divorced, his mother married Miguel Bezos, a Cuban immigrant, who adopted Jeff. The family moved to Houston, Texas, where Bezos attended River Oaks Elementary School. Later, they relocated to Miami, Florida, where he attended Miami Palmetto Senior High School. Bezos graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with degrees in electrical engineering and computer science.

Early Career[edit | edit source]
After graduating from Princeton, Bezos worked at several firms on Wall Street, including Fitel, Bankers Trust, and D. E. Shaw & Co.. At D. E. Shaw, he became the youngest vice president in the company's history.
Founding of Amazon[edit | edit source]
In 1994, Bezos founded Amazon in his garage in Seattle, Washington. Initially an online bookstore, Amazon expanded to a wide variety of products and services, including Amazon Web Services, Amazon Prime, and Amazon Kindle. Under Bezos's leadership, Amazon became the world's largest online retailer and one of the most influential companies globally.
Blue Origin[edit | edit source]
In 2000, Bezos founded Blue Origin, a private aerospace manufacturer and sub-orbital spaceflight services company. Blue Origin aims to make space travel more affordable and accessible. In 2021, Bezos flew to space aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket.
The Washington Post[edit | edit source]
In 2013, Bezos purchased The Washington Post for $250 million. Under his ownership, the newspaper has expanded its digital presence and increased its profitability.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Bezos married MacKenzie Tuttle in 1993, and they have four children. The couple announced their divorce in 2019. Bezos has been in a relationship with Lauren Sánchez since 2019.
Wealth and Philanthropy[edit | edit source]
Bezos is one of the wealthiest individuals in the world, with his net worth primarily derived from his holdings in Amazon. He has made significant philanthropic contributions, including the establishment of the Bezos Earth Fund and donations to various educational and scientific causes.
