Jeff Colyer

Jeffrey William Colyer (born June 3, 1960) is an American physician and politician who served as the 47th Governor of Kansas from January 31, 2018, to January 14, 2019. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Jeff Colyer was born in Hays, Kansas. He attended Georgetown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He then went on to receive a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas.
Medical career[edit | edit source]
Colyer is a plastic surgeon and has participated in numerous medical missions to war-torn regions, including Rwanda, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He has been recognized for his humanitarian efforts and contributions to global health.
Political career[edit | edit source]
Kansas House of Representatives[edit | edit source]
Colyer began his political career in the Kansas House of Representatives, representing the 48th district from January 8, 2007, to January 12, 2009.
Kansas Senate[edit | edit source]
He then served in the Kansas Senate, representing the 37th district from January 12, 2009, to January 10, 2011.
Lieutenant Governor of Kansas[edit | edit source]
Colyer was elected as the 49th Lieutenant Governor of Kansas and served from January 10, 2011, to January 31, 2018, under Governor Sam Brownback.
Governor of Kansas[edit | edit source]
Colyer became the 47th Governor of Kansas on January 31, 2018, following the resignation of Governor Sam Brownback, who was appointed as the United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom. Colyer served as governor until January 14, 2019, when he was succeeded by Laura Kelly.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
Jeff Colyer is married to Ruth Colyer, and they have three children. The family resides in Overland Park, Kansas.
