Joseph James Rogan (born August 11, 1967) is an American comedian, podcast host, and mixed martial arts (MMA) commentator. He is known for his work in stand-up comedy, his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, and his role as a commentator for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Early life[edit | edit source]
Joe Rogan was born on August 11, 1967, in Newark, New Jersey. He is of Italian and Irish descent. Rogan's family moved to San Francisco, California when he was seven, and later to Gainesville, Florida. They eventually settled in Newton, Massachusetts, where Rogan attended Newton South High School.

Stand-up comedy[edit | edit source]
Rogan began his career in stand-up comedy in 1988 in the Boston area. He moved to Los Angeles in 1994 and secured a developmental deal with the network NBC. He appeared on the television show NewsRadio as Joe Garrelli, a role that increased his visibility.
Mixed martial arts[edit | edit source]
Rogan has been a fan of martial arts since his youth. He holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and a black belt in taekwondo. In 1997, he began working for the UFC as a backstage and post-fight interviewer. He became a color commentator for the UFC in 2002 and has since become one of the most recognizable voices in the sport.

In December 2009, Rogan launched The Joe Rogan Experience, a long-form conversation podcast. The podcast features a wide range of guests, including comedians, scientists, politicians, and authors. Rogan married Jessica Ditzel, a former cocktail waitress, in 2009. The couple has three children. They reside in Austin, Texas.
