Joel Selanikio
Joel Selanikio is an American physician, epidemiologist, technologist, and entrepreneur. He is best known for his work in global health, particularly in the development and implementation of innovative technologies for public health data collection and analysis.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Joel Selanikio was born in the United States. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Haverford College, where he earned a degree in biology. He later attended the Brown University School of Medicine, where he obtained his MD degree. Following medical school, Selanikio completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Public Health and Technology[edit | edit source]
Selanikio began his career in public health as an epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). During his tenure at the CDC, he worked on various projects, including the response to the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami.
In 2003, Selanikio co-founded DataDyne, a social enterprise focused on developing technology solutions for public health. One of DataDyne's most notable products is Magpi, a mobile data collection platform that has been widely used in global health, agriculture, and other sectors. Magpi allows users to collect, analyze, and share data in real-time using mobile devices, significantly improving the efficiency and accuracy of data collection in the field.
Academic and Consulting Work[edit | edit source]
In addition to his work with DataDyne, Selanikio has held academic positions at several institutions, including Georgetown University and the University of California, San Francisco. He has also served as a consultant for various organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations.
