Early life and education[edit | edit source]
John A. Gilruth was born in Auchmithie, Scotland. He studied veterinary science at the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated with a degree in 1892. After completing his education, Gilruth worked in various veterinary positions in Scotland and England before emigrating to Australia in 1908.
