John Burton-Race (born 1957) is a British celebrity chef and television personality. He is known for his appearances on various cooking shows and for his work in several high-profile restaurants in the United Kingdom.

John Burton-Race was born in Singapore in 1957. He spent much of his early life traveling due to his father's career in the British Army. Burton-Race developed an interest in cooking at a young age and pursued formal training in the culinary arts.

Burton-Race began his professional career working in several prestigious restaurants in London. He gained experience under renowned chefs and quickly made a name for himself in the culinary world.

Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons[edit | edit source]

In the 1980s, Burton-Race worked at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant in Oxford, under the mentorship of Raymond Blanc. This experience significantly influenced his cooking style and philosophy.

L'Ortolan[edit | edit source]

In 1986, Burton-Race became the head chef at L'Ortolan in Berkshire. Under his leadership, the restaurant earned two Michelin stars, solidifying his reputation as a top chef.

The New Angel[edit | edit source]

In 2004, Burton-Race opened The New Angel in Dartmouth, Devon. The restaurant quickly gained critical acclaim and was awarded a Michelin star. However, it closed in 2010 due to financial difficulties.

Burton-Race is well-known for his television appearances. He starred in the Channel 4 series French Leave and its sequel Return of the Chef. He also appeared on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2007.
