Jonah Shacknai

Jonah Shacknai is an American businessman and the founder of Medicis Pharmaceutical, a company that specializes in dermatological and aesthetic pharmaceutical products. He served as the CEO of the company from its inception in 1988 until it was acquired by Valeant Pharmaceuticals in 2012.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Shacknai was born in New York City and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Kenyon College in Ohio and a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.

Career[edit | edit source]

Before founding Medicis, Shacknai worked as a staff member for the United States House Committee on Ways and Means, where he specialized in health policy issues. He also served as the Executive Assistant to the United States Secretary of Labor.

In 1988, Shacknai founded Medicis Pharmaceutical in Scottsdale, Arizona. The company focused on the development and marketing of products for the treatment of dermatological and aesthetic conditions. Some of its most successful products include Solodyn, a prescription antibiotic for acne, and Restylane, a dermal filler used for facial aesthetics.

In 2012, Medicis was acquired by Valeant Pharmaceuticals for $2.6 billion. Following the acquisition, Shacknai stepped down as CEO.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Shacknai has been involved in several high-profile legal cases, including a wrongful death lawsuit following the death of his girlfriend, Rebecca Zahau, at his Coronado, California home in 2011. The case attracted significant media attention and led to a number of conspiracy theories.
