Jorge Paulo Lemann
Jorge Paulo Lemann (born August 26, 1939) is a Brazilian business magnate, investment banker, and philanthropist. He is ranked as the 29th richest person in the world by Forbes magazine. Lemann is known for his role in the formation of 3G Capital and Anheuser-Busch InBev, two major players in the global brewing industry.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Lemann was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He attended Harvard University, where he graduated with a degree in Economics in 1961.
Career[edit | edit source]
After graduating from Harvard, Lemann started his career as a trainee at the Swiss bank, Credit Suisse. In 1971, he, along with Carlos Alberto Sicupira and Marcel Herrmann Telles, founded the investment banking firm, Banco Garantia. The firm was later sold to Credit Suisse Boston for $675 million in 1998.
In 2004, Lemann, Sicupira, and Telles founded 3G Capital, a global investment firm known for its ownership of companies such as Burger King, Tim Hortons, and Kraft Heinz. The firm is also known for its role in the merger of Anheuser-Busch and InBev, which resulted in the creation of Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world's largest beer company.
Philanthropy[edit | edit source]
Lemann is also known for his philanthropic efforts. He established the Lemann Foundation in 2002, which focuses on improving education in Brazil. The foundation provides scholarships for Brazilian students to attend some of the world's leading universities, including Harvard University, Yale University, and Columbia University.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
Lemann is married and has five children. He is an avid tennis player and has won the Brazilian national tennis championship five times.
