Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law is a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes papers in the field of psychiatry and law. The journal's editor is Debra A. Pinals, MD. It has been in publication since 1973 and is currently published by the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.

The Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law is dedicated to providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and information between psychiatry and the law. It aims to promote interdisciplinary understanding, and to advance the field of forensic psychiatry.

The journal publishes original research, clinical observations, review articles, book reviews, and letters to the editor. Topics covered include the relationship between mental health and law, forensic psychiatric evaluations, ethics, and the care of incarcerated patients.
