Jucy Lucy

From WikiMD's Wellnesspedia

Jucy Lucy is a type of cheeseburger that has the cheese inside the meat patty instead of on top. The dish originated in the United States, specifically in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The exact origins of the Jucy Lucy are disputed, but it is most commonly attributed to either Matt's Bar or the 5-8 Club, both located in Minneapolis.

History[edit | edit source]

The Jucy Lucy was first created in the 1950s. The two establishments that claim to have invented the dish, Matt's Bar and the 5-8 Club, have slightly different versions. Matt's Bar credits the creation to a customer who asked for two hamburger patties with a slice of cheese in the middle. When he bit into it, he reportedly exclaimed, "that's one juicy Lucy," and thus the name was born. The 5-8 Club, on the other hand, claims that it was their idea and that they have been serving it since the 1950s. They spell it "Juicy Lucy."

Preparation[edit | edit source]

The Jucy Lucy is prepared by taking two thin beef burger patties, placing a piece of cheese between them, and then sealing the edges to create a single patty. The burger is then cooked until the cheese inside melts, creating a molten core. It is typically served on a bun with pickles, onions, and often with a side of French fries.

Variations[edit | edit source]

There are several variations of the Jucy Lucy. Some restaurants offer versions with different types of cheese, such as blue cheese or pepper jack. Others add additional fillings, like jalapenos or bacon. There are also variations in the type of bread used, with some places offering options like pretzel buns or gluten-free buns.

In popular culture[edit | edit source]

The Jucy Lucy has been featured on several television shows, including Man v. Food and Food Wars, and has become a symbol of Minneapolis's culinary scene.
