KERAFED
KERAFED (Kerala Kerakarshaka Sahakarana Federation) is a cooperative federation in the state of Kerala, India. It was established in 1987 with the primary objective of promoting the welfare of coconut farmers in the state. KERAFED is one of the largest coconut oil marketing federations in India and plays a significant role in the agriculture sector of Kerala.
History[edit | edit source]
KERAFED was formed in response to the challenges faced by coconut farmers in Kerala, including fluctuating market prices and exploitation by middlemen. The federation was established under the Kerala Cooperative Societies Act, 1969, and began its operations in 1987. Since its inception, KERAFED has been instrumental in stabilizing the coconut oil market and ensuring fair prices for farmers.
Objectives[edit | edit source]
The primary objectives of KERAFED include:

- Facilitating the procurement, processing, and marketing of coconuts and coconut products.
- Promoting the use of modern agricultural practices and technologies among coconut farmers.
Operations[edit | edit source]
KERAFED operates through a network of primary cooperative societies and regional offices across Kerala. The federation procures coconuts from farmers and processes them into coconut oil and other value-added products. KERAFED's products are marketed under the brand name "KERA."
Procurement[edit | edit source]
KERAFED procures coconuts directly from farmers through its member cooperative societies. This ensures that farmers receive fair prices for their produce without the intervention of middlemen.
Processing[edit | edit source]
The federation operates several coconut oil mills and processing units across Kerala. These facilities are equipped with modern machinery and adhere to strict quality control measures to produce high-quality coconut oil.
Marketing[edit | edit source]
KERAFED markets its products through a well-established distribution network. The federation's products, including coconut oil, are available in various packaging sizes to cater to different consumer needs. KERAFED also exports its products to international markets.
