KLF12

KLF12 or Krüppel-like factor 12 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the KLF12 gene. It is a member of the Krüppel-like factor family of transcription factors.

Function[edit | edit source]

KLF12 is a transcriptional repressor that binds to a specific sequence in the PDGF A-chain promoter. It is thought to play a significant role in the regulation of gene expression. The protein is known to interact with AP-2 alpha, a developmentally-regulated transcription factor.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Alterations in the expression of KLF12 have been associated with various forms of cancer, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and gastric cancer. It has been suggested that KLF12 may act as a tumor suppressor in certain contexts.
