Kage Baker
Kage Baker (June 10, 1952 – January 31, 2010) was an American science fiction and fantasy writer. She is best known for her series of time travel novels about The Company, a group of immortals who travel through time to save valuable artifacts and cultural treasures.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Kage Baker was born in Hollywood, California. She spent much of her early life in Pismo Beach, where she developed a love for literature and history. Baker was educated at a Catholic school and later attended community college.
Career[edit | edit source]
Baker's first published work was the short story "Noble Mold" in 1997, which introduced the character of Mendoza and the world of The Company. This story was later expanded into her first novel, In the Garden of Iden (1997). The Company series continued with several more novels and short stories, including Sky Coyote (1999), Mendoza in Hollywood (2000), and The Graveyard Game (2001).
In addition to The Company series, Baker wrote several standalone novels and short stories. Her works often explore themes of immortality, ethics, and the impact of technology on society. Some of her notable standalone works include The Anvil of the World (2003) and The Empress of Mars (2008).
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Baker was known for her wit and her deep knowledge of history and literature. She was a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and was active in the science fiction fandom community. Baker passed away from uterine cancer in 2010.
