Khoy
Khoy is a city in and the capital of Khoy County, West Azerbaijan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 178,708, in 45,297 families. Khoy is located north of the province's capital and largest city, Urmia, and 807 km (501 mi) north-west to Tehran; the country's capital. Khoy is the biggest city in the Azerbaijani region of Iran. It serves as the economic hub of the West Azerbaijan Province and the Azerbaijani region of Iran.

Khoy was a renowned center of silk production and, until the late 19th century, was source to one of the world's finest silks, exported to Europe and the Ottoman Empire.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Khoy is located in a wide plain surrounded by mountains on three sides. The region has a semi-arid climate with high variation between summer and winter temperatures.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of Khoy is based on agriculture, particularly the production of fruit, grain, and timber. Khoy is also a market for the surrounding region.
Culture[edit | edit source]
Khoy has several historical and architectural monuments, including the Maqbaratoshoara or the Mausoleum of Poets.
