Lactarius chrysorrheus is a species of mushroom in the genus Lactarius. It is commonly known as the Golden Milkcap due to its distinctive golden-yellow cap coloration. This mushroom is found in various regions around the world, typically growing in association with coniferous trees.

Description[edit | edit source]

The cap of Lactarius chrysorrheus is convex when young, later flattening out with a depressed center. It can reach a diameter of up to 10 centimeters. The cap surface is smooth and slimy when moist. The gills are crowded and adnate, initially pale yellow but turning orange with age. The stem is cylindrical and often has a yellowish hue.

Lactarius chrysorrheus is commonly found in coniferous forests, particularly in association with pine trees. It is known to occur in regions such as North America and Europe, where it fruits during the late summer and fall months.

This mushroom is considered edible by some, but caution is advised as some species within the genus Lactarius are known to cause gastrointestinal upset in certain individuals. Proper identification and cooking methods are essential before consuming any wild mushrooms.
