Langen, Hesse
Langen, Hesse is a town in the Offenbach district in the Regierungsbezirk of Darmstadt, in Hesse, Germany. It is situated between Darmstadt and Frankfurt am Main and is part of the Frankfurt Rhein-Main urban area. Langen is headquarters to several international corporations.

The earliest known settlements in Langen dates back to the Stone Age. The town was first mentioned in official documents in 834 AD. Langen grew very slowly and remained a small town until the 19th century. The development of the town was promoted by its favourable location on the railway line from Frankfurt am Main to Heidelberg.
Economy[edit | edit source]
Langen is home to the German Air Traffic Control, Deutsche Flugsicherung, which provides air traffic control for Germany and parts of the North Atlantic. Other major employers in Langen include Fujitsu and Oracle Corporation.
Culture[edit | edit source]
Langen is known for its cultural events. The most famous is the Ebbelwoi Festival, a cider festival which takes place annually in July. The town also hosts a Christmas market in December.
Education[edit | edit source]
Langen has several primary schools, secondary schools, and a school for special needs. The town also has a music school and a public library.
Transport[edit | edit source]
Langen has a railway station on the Rhine-Main S-Bahn network. It is also served by several bus lines. The town is located near the A5 motorway, which provides connections to Frankfurt am Main and Darmstadt.
Notable people[edit | edit source]
Notable people from Langen include the writer Karl May, the physicist Wolfgang K. H. Panofsky, and the footballer Jürgen Grabowski.
