Lars Løkke Rasmussen
Lars Løkke Rasmussen (born 15 May 1964) is a Danish politician who has served as the Prime Minister of Denmark on two separate occasions, first from April 2009 to October 2011 and again from June 2015 to June 2019. He is a member of the Venstre party, which is a liberal and centre-right political party in Denmark.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Lars Løkke Rasmussen was born in Vejle, Denmark. He grew up in Græsted in North Zealand. He attended the University of Copenhagen, where he studied law but did not complete his degree.

Early Political Involvement[edit | edit source]
Rasmussen began his political career in the Venstre party's youth organization, Venstres Ungdom. He was elected to the Folketing (the Danish Parliament) in 1994.
Ministerial Positions[edit | edit source]
Rasmussen held several ministerial positions before becoming Prime Minister. He served as the Minister for the Interior and Health from 2001 to 2007 and as the Minister of Finance from 2007 to 2009.
Prime Minister of Denmark[edit | edit source]
Rasmussen first became Prime Minister in April 2009, succeeding Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who left to become the Secretary General of NATO. During his first term, he faced significant challenges, including the global financial crisis. His government implemented austerity measures and economic reforms.
In the 2011 general election, his party lost to the Social Democrats, and Helle Thorning-Schmidt succeeded him as Prime Minister.
Rasmussen returned to power after the 2015 general election, forming a minority government. His second term was marked by debates over immigration policy and economic reforms. He remained in office until June 2019, when he was succeeded by Mette Frederiksen of the Social Democrats.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen is married to Sólrun Løkke Rasmussen, and they have three children. He is known for his interest in running and has participated in several marathons.

Rasmussen's tenure as Prime Minister is noted for his economic policies and efforts to reform the welfare state. His leadership style and political strategies have been subjects of both praise and criticism.
