Linda Reid

Linda Reid (born January 11, 1959) is a Canadian politician who served as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 2013 to 2017. She was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (MLA) representing the electoral district of Richmond South Centre from 1991 to 2020. Reid is a member of the British Columbia Liberal Party.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Linda Reid was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. She attended the University of British Columbia, where she earned a degree in Education. Prior to entering politics, Reid worked as a teacher.

Political career[edit | edit source]

Reid was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in the 1991 provincial election, representing the Richmond South Centre riding. She was re-elected in subsequent elections and served as an MLA for nearly three decades.

During her tenure, Reid held various roles, including serving as the Minister of State for Early Childhood Development and the Minister of State for Childcare. She was known for her advocacy on issues related to education, childcare, and early childhood development.

In 2013, Reid was elected as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, a position she held until 2017. As Speaker, she was responsible for maintaining order and decorum in the Legislative Assembly and ensuring the rules and procedures were followed.

Linda Reid is married to Sheldon Reid, and they have two children. The family resides in Richmond, British Columbia.
