Baked goods are foods made from dough or batter, which are cooked by baking, a method of cooking food that uses prolonged dry heat, normally in an oven, but also in hot ashes, or on hot stones. The most common baked item is bread but many other types of foods are baked as well.

Bread[edit | edit source]

Bread is a staple food prepared from a dough of flour and water, usually by baking. It is one of the oldest human-made foods, having been of significant importance since the dawn of agriculture.

Cake[edit | edit source]

A cake is a form of sweet food made from flour, sugar, and other ingredients, that is usually baked. Cakes are often filled with fruit preserves, nuts or dessert sauces, iced with buttercream or other icings, and decorated with marzipan, piped borders, or candied fruit.

Cookies[edit | edit source]

Cookies are small, flat, sweet, baked goods, usually containing flour, eggs, sugar, and either butter, cooking oil or another oil or fat. They may be filled with fruit preserves or chocolate.

Pastries[edit | edit source]

Pastries are a variety of baked goods which are made with ingredients such as flour, sugar, milk, butter, shortening, baking powder, and eggs. They include pie, tart, quiche and others.

Pies[edit | edit source]

A pie is a baked dish which is usually made of a pastry dough casing that contains a filling of various sweet or savoury ingredients.

Muffins[edit | edit source]

Muffins are individual-sized, baked quick bread products similar to cupcakes in size and cooking methods. The typical American muffin is similar to a cupcake in size and cooking methods.
