Italy is home to numerous rivers that flow through its diverse landscapes, from the Alps in the north to the Apennine Mountains and the coastal plains. These rivers play a crucial role in the country's ecology, economy, and history.
Major Rivers[edit | edit source]
- Po River: The longest river in Italy, the Po River flows eastward across northern Italy from the Cottian Alps to the Adriatic Sea. It is approximately 652 kilometers long.
- Adige: The second longest river in Italy, the Adige flows from the Alps near the Reschen Pass through the Veneto region to the Adriatic Sea.
- Tiber: Known as the river that runs through Rome, the Tiber originates in the Apennine Mountains and flows southward to the Tyrrhenian Sea.
- Arno: Flowing through the region of Tuscany, the Arno River passes through the cities of Florence and Pisa before emptying into the Tyrrhenian Sea.

- Adda: Another significant tributary of the Po, the Adda River flows from the Alps through Lake Como and into the Po River.

- Liri: Flowing through central Italy, the Liri River is a tributary of the Garigliano.
- Volturno: The longest river in southern Italy, the Volturno flows from the Apennines to the Tyrrhenian Sea.
