Lundbeck

Lundbeck is a global pharmaceutical company specializing in psychiatric and neurological disorders. Founded in 1915 by Hans Lundbeck in Copenhagen, Denmark, the company has grown to become an international enterprise with operations in more than 50 countries.

History[edit | edit source]

Hans Lundbeck founded the company in 1915 as a trading company supplying a variety of goods. It wasn't until 1924 that Lundbeck entered the pharmaceutical industry, importing medicines and cosmetics from companies based in other European and overseas companies.

In the 1930s, Lundbeck started producing its own drugs and established its own research department. The company's first breakthrough came in 1954 with the development of Truxal, an antipsychotic for the treatment of schizophrenia.

Research and Development[edit | edit source]

Lundbeck's Research and Development (R&D) efforts are primarily focused on new drugs for the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) disorders. The company's R&D strategy is based on a combination of in-house research, collaborations with external partners, and acquisitions of compounds and companies.

Products[edit | edit source]

Lundbeck's product portfolio includes drugs for the treatment of depression, anxiety, psychosis, epilepsy, Huntington's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. Some of the company's most well-known products include Cipralex/Lexapro (escitalopram), Abilify Maintena, Rexulti, and Brintellix.

Corporate Responsibility[edit | edit source]

Lundbeck is committed to improving the quality of life for people suffering from psychiatric and neurological disorders. As part of this commitment, the company is involved in various corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, including efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its operations, promote ethical business practices, and contribute to the communities in which it operates.
