MDPHP
MDPHP (3',4'-Methylenedioxy-α-pyrrolidinohexiophenone) is a stimulant of the cathinone class that has been sold online as a designer drug. It is a higher homologue of MDPV and the p-methyl derivative of MDPPP.
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
MDPHP is a substituted cathinone, which means it features a phenethylamine core with an alkyl group attached to the alpha carbon, and a ketone group attached to the beta carbon. Cathinones are beta-ketone analogues of amphetamine. In the case of MDPHP, the phenethylamine core is modified by an alkyl group on the alpha carbon consisting of five carbon atoms, and the addition of a methylenedioxy functional group on the phenyl ring.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
The pharmacology of MDPHP is largely unknown, with little scientific research conducted on this substance. It is believed to act as a potent norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI), but it may also have other effects. As a NDRI, MDPHP is believed to boost the levels of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain by inhibiting their reuptake into neurons. This leads to increased neuronal activity and a sense of stimulation.
Effects[edit | edit source]
The effects of MDPHP can vary greatly depending on the dose, individual physiology, and method of administration. Common effects reported by users include feelings of euphoria, increased alertness and focus, and increased energy. However, negative side effects can include anxiety, paranoia, and increased heart rate.
Legal Status[edit | edit source]
The legal status of MDPHP varies by country. In the United States, it is not regulated at the federal level but may be considered an analogue of other illegal drugs under the Federal Analogue Act. In the United Kingdom, MDPHP is a Class B drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, making it illegal to sell, buy, or possess without a license.
