Mallomars

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Mallomars are a type of cookie that originated in the United States. They are produced by Nabisco, a prominent American manufacturer of cookies and snacks. Mallomars were first introduced in 1913 and have since become a popular treat, particularly in the northeastern United States and parts of Canada.

History[edit | edit source]

The first Mallomars were sold to a grocer in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1913. The cookies were initially available only from September to March because they would melt in the warmer months. Today, Mallomars are available year-round, but they are still most popular in the fall and winter.

Description[edit | edit source]

A Mallomar is composed of a round graham cracker base, topped with a puff of marshmallow, and then enrobed in a shell of dark chocolate. The combination of crunchy base, soft marshmallow, and rich chocolate creates a unique texture and flavor profile.

Popularity[edit | edit source]

Mallomars are particularly popular in the New York metropolitan area. According to Nabisco, about 85% of all Mallomars sales are in the northeastern United States, despite the cookies being available across the country. They have also gained a following in parts of Canada, where they are sold under the name "Whippets".

In popular culture[edit | edit source]

Mallomars have been referenced in various forms of popular culture, including television shows like Seinfeld and The West Wing, and books such as Harlan Coben's Drop Shot.
