Manila
Manila is the capital city of the Philippines, and one of the oldest cities in the country. It is located on the eastern shore of Manila Bay and is home to many landmarks, some of which date back to the 16th century. It is the most densely populated city proper in the world as of 2018.

Manila was founded by the Rajah Sulayman, a Muslim Rajah of the historic kingdom of Tondo, in the late 16th century. It was later conquered by the Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi in 1571 and became a part of the Spanish Empire for more than 300 years.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Manila is located on the eastern shores of Manila Bay, which lies in the southwestern part of Luzon, the largest and most populous island in the Philippines. The city is divided into six legislative districts and consists of 16 geographical districts.
Economy[edit | edit source]
Manila is the economic and financial hub of the Philippines with the Port of Manila being the country's busiest seaport. It also hosts the headquarters of the Asian Development Bank.
Culture[edit | edit source]
Manila is a center for the arts in the Philippines, hosting numerous museums, galleries, theaters, and concert halls. The city is also known for its diverse cuisine and vibrant nightlife.
Education[edit | edit source]
Manila is home to several public and private schools, colleges, and universities, including the University of Santo Tomas, the oldest existing university in Asia.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
Manila is served by the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the main international gateway to the country. The city also has an extensive road network and a major seaport.
