From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Marinejegerkommandoen (MJK) is a special operations forces unit of the Royal Norwegian Navy. Established in 1953, it is one of the oldest special operations units in the world. The unit is headquartered at the Haakonsvern naval base in Bergen, Norway.

History[edit | edit source]

The Marinejegerkommandoen was established during the Cold War, in response to the increasing threat of Soviet aggression. The unit was initially trained by the British Special Air Service (SAS) and the United States Navy SEALs, and has since developed its own unique set of skills and tactics.

Training[edit | edit source]

Candidates for the Marinejegerkommandoen must undergo a rigorous selection process, which includes physical, psychological, and tactical tests. The training program is one of the most demanding in the world, with a high attrition rate. It includes scuba diving, parachuting, mountaineering, survival skills, and combat medicine.

Operations[edit | edit source]

The Marinejegerkommandoen has been involved in numerous operations, both domestically and internationally. These include counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, reconnaissance, and direct action missions. The unit has also participated in international peacekeeping missions, such as in Afghanistan and Somalia.

Equipment[edit | edit source]

The Marinejegerkommandoen is equipped with a wide range of specialized equipment, including firearms, explosives, communications equipment, and underwater vehicles. The unit also has access to a variety of military vehicles, including helicopters, fast attack craft, and submarines.
