Mark Loane
Mark Edward Loane (born 11 July 1954) is a former Australian rugby union player and ophthalmologist. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest rugby union players to have represented Australia.

Mark Loane was born in Ipswich, Queensland. He attended Brisbane State High School, where he first showcased his talent in rugby union. Loane later pursued a degree in medicine at the University of Queensland, balancing his academic commitments with his burgeoning rugby career.

Loane's rugby career began in earnest when he joined the University of Queensland Rugby Club. His exceptional skills as a number eight quickly earned him a place in the Queensland Reds team. Loane made his debut for the Wallabies in 1973 against Fiji.

Loane's international career spanned from 1973 to 1982, during which he earned 28 caps for the Wallabies. He captained the team on several occasions, including the memorable 1979 victory over the All Blacks.
