Matt Stonie


Matthew Kai "Megatoad" Stonie (born May 24, 1992) is an American competitive eater and is the number three ranked competitive eater in Major League Eating. Stonie has gained fame from his YouTube channel, where he posts most of his eating challenges.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Stonie was born on May 24, 1992, in San Jose, California, to Cathy Stonie and Dorian Stonie. He is of Czechoslovakian, Lithuanian, and Japanese descent. Stonie graduated from Evergreen Valley High School in 2010 and attended Mission College, Santa Clara majoring in nutrition.

Career[edit | edit source]

Stonie began eating competitively in 2010 while attending Mission College. His first competition was the Stockton Deep Fried Asparagus Championship in Stockton, California, where he ate 5.5 pounds of deep-fried asparagus in 10 minutes.

In 2015, Stonie defeated eight-time defending Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest champion Joey Chestnut by eating 62 hot dogs to Chestnut's 60. However, he lost the title in 2016 when Chestnut reclaimed his title by eating 70 hot dogs to Stonie's 53.

Stonie's YouTube channel, where he posts videos of his eating challenges, has over 14 million subscribers and over 2 billion views as of 2021. His most popular video is "Epic Chili Cheese Fries!!" with over 24 million views.

Stonie resides in San Jose, California. He has a younger brother named Morgan who often appears in his YouTube videos.
