Mayo University Hospital is a public hospital located in Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland. It is managed by the Health Service Executive and provides acute and specialist hospital services for the people of County Mayo.

Mayo University Hospital was established in 1998, replacing the old County Hospital. It has grown significantly since its inception, both in terms of size and the range of services offered.

Services[edit | edit source]

The hospital provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. It is a designated Cancer Centre, one of eight in Ireland, and provides radiotherapy services in conjunction with University Hospital Galway. Other services include emergency, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, anaesthetics, pathology, radiology and pharmacy.

Research and Education[edit | edit source]

Mayo University Hospital has a strong commitment to research and education, with links to the National University of Ireland, Galway and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. It is involved in clinical trials in areas such as oncology and cystic fibrosis.
