McMaster University is a public research university located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The university bears the name of William McMaster, a prominent Canadian senator and banker who donated C$900,000 to endow the university. McMaster University is renowned for its medical school, the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.

McMaster University was founded in 1887 by Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec. The university was originally located in Toronto, but moved to its current location in Hamilton in 1930. The university's medical school was established in 1965.
