The Medisch Spectrum Twente (MST) is the hospital located in Enschede, Netherlands. It is a top-clinical center providing secondary and limited tertiary care.
Facilities[edit | edit source]
The hospital has a capacity of 1,070 beds and employs over 200 medical specialists and approximately 4,000 staff members.
In addition to the regular clinical departments, MST offers tertiary care services such as cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, advanced oncological care, radiotherapy, bone marrow transplantations, hemodialysis, a large hospital pharmacy, and a regional level I trauma center. It is one of the largest non-academic hospitals in the Netherlands.
While the hospital does not have its own trauma helicopter, an ADAC helicopter from the neighboring German town of Rheine is often called upon by the local ambulance control center. MST has a newly constructed helicopter platform.
Satellite locations[edit | edit source]
Oldenzaal[edit | edit source]
MST operates a small facility in Oldenzaal, primarily for outpatient care. Some low-risk surgeries that require no more than two days of hospitalization are also performed there. The Oldenzaal facility is equipped to carry out most regular diagnostic procedures, and nearly all specialties have a satellite department there. It also has a small urgent care department that operates during the morning, afternoon, and evening hours, but not at night. Ambulances transport patients directly to the main facility in Enschede instead of the Oldenzaal location. The 1,070 beds of MST include those at the Oldenzaal facility.
Haaksbergen and Losser[edit | edit source]
The Haaksbergen and Losser facilities of MST offer only ambulatory care. Several MST specialists spend one or two days per week at these locations.
