Mehmet Müezzinoğlu (born 9 January 1955) is a Turkish physician and politician who served as the Minister of Health from 24 January 2013 to 24 May 2016. He is a member of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and has been a Member of Parliament for Istanbul and Edirne.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Mehmet Müezzinoğlu was born on 9 January 1955 in Komotini, Greece. He completed his primary and secondary education in Greece before moving to Turkey. Müezzinoğlu graduated from the Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine.
Medical career[edit | edit source]
After completing his medical education, Müezzinoğlu worked as a physician. He specialized in internal medicine and worked in various hospitals and clinics in Turkey.
Political career[edit | edit source]
Müezzinoğlu entered politics as a member of the Justice and Development Party (AKP). He was first elected to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in the 2011 general elections, representing Istanbul. He was re-elected in the June 2015 and November 2015 general elections, this time representing Edirne.
Minister of Health[edit | edit source]
On 24 January 2013, Müezzinoğlu was appointed as the Minister of Health in the cabinet of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He continued to serve in this position under Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu until 24 May 2016. During his tenure, Müezzinoğlu focused on improving the healthcare system in Turkey, including the expansion of health services and the implementation of new health policies.

Mehmet Müezzinoğlu is married and has two children. He is fluent in both Turkish and Greek.
