Mehriban Aliyeva

Mehriban Aliyeva is the First Vice President of Azerbaijan, a position she has held since 2017. She is also the wife of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. Aliyeva is known for her philanthropic work, particularly in the areas of education and healthcare, and she is the founder and chair of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Azerbaijan Culture Foundation, and the Friends of Azerbaijani Culture Foundation.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Aliyeva was born on 26 August 1964 in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, Soviet Union. She graduated from the First Moscow State Medical University in 1988 and later studied at the Sechenov Medical Academy in Moscow, where she specialized in ophthalmology.

Career[edit | edit source]

In 1995, Aliyeva was appointed as the President of the Azerbaijan Culture Foundation, a role in which she promotes Azerbaijani culture and heritage. In 2004, she was elected as a member of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan and has been a deputy of the Assembly since then. In 2017, she was appointed as the First Vice President of Azerbaijan by her husband, President Ilham Aliyev.

Philanthropy[edit | edit source]

Aliyeva is the founder and chair of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of cultural, social and political initiatives in Azerbaijan and abroad. The Foundation has been involved in various projects, including the construction of schools, hospitals, and cultural centers in Azerbaijan.

Aliyeva is married to Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan. They have three children together.
