Methylclostebol
Methylclostebol is a synthetic androgen and anabolic steroid (AAS) and a 17α-alkylated derivative of 4-chlorotestosterone that was never marketed. It is a designer steroid and has been used as a performance-enhancing drug. Methylclostebol is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's list of prohibited substances, and is therefore banned from use in most major sports.
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
Methylclostebol, also known as 4-chloro-17α-methyltestosterone or as 4-chloro-17α-methylandrost-4-en-17β-ol-3-one, is a synthetic androstane steroid and a derivative of testosterone. It is more specifically a derivative of 4-chlorotestosterone (clostebol) in which a methyl group has been added at the C17α position.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
As an AAS, methylclostebol is an agonist of the androgen receptor (AR), the biological target of androgens like testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It has strong anabolic effects and weak androgenic effects, which give it a mild side effect profile and make it especially suitable for use in women.
Society and culture[edit | edit source]
Methylclostebol is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's list of prohibited substances, and is therefore banned from use in most major sports. It is a designer steroid and has been used as a performance-enhancing drug.
