Michael Posner

Michael Posner is an American cognitive psychologist, best known for his work on attention. He is currently an emeritus professor of psychology at the University of Oregon.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Posner was born in Washington, D.C. in 1936. He received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Washington in 1957, and his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Michigan in 1962.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his Ph.D., Posner joined the faculty at the University of Oregon, where he spent the majority of his career. His research has primarily focused on the cognitive processes involved in attention, and he has made significant contributions to our understanding of how attention is controlled and shaped by the brain.

Posner's work has been influential in a variety of fields, including neuroscience, psychology, and education. His research has helped to shape theories of cognitive development, and has implications for understanding disorders such as ADHD and Autism.

Over the course of his career, Posner has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to psychology.
