Mieczysław Michałowicz (1876–1965) was a prominent Polish physician, pediatrician, and social activist. He made significant contributions to the field of medicine and was actively involved in various social and political movements in Poland.

Mieczysław Michałowicz was born on September 15, 1876, in Warsaw, which was then part of the Russian Empire. He pursued his medical studies at the University of Warsaw, where he graduated with a degree in medicine in 1901. Michałowicz furthered his education in pediatrics in various European cities, including Paris, Berlin, and Vienna.

Medical Career[edit | edit source]

Michałowicz was a pioneer in the field of pediatrics in Poland. He worked at several hospitals in Warsaw, where he introduced modern pediatric practices and treatments. He was also a professor at the University of Warsaw, where he taught and mentored many future Polish physicians.

Social and Political Activism[edit | edit source]

Apart from his medical career, Michałowicz was deeply involved in social and political activities. He was a member of the Polish Socialist Party and actively participated in the fight for Polish independence. During World War II, he was involved in the Polish resistance movement and provided medical care to those affected by the war.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Mieczysław Michałowicz is remembered for his contributions to pediatrics and his dedication to social causes. He was a founding member of the Polish Pediatric Society and played a crucial role in the development of pediatric care in Poland. Michałowicz passed away on January 22, 1965, in Warsaw.
