NBOMe-mescaline

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

NBOMe-mescaline is a psychedelic drug that belongs to the phenethylamine class of compounds. It is a derivative of mescaline, a naturally occurring psychedelic found in certain cacti, but has been modified to include a NBOMe (N-benzylmethoxy) group. This modification significantly alters the drug's effects and potency.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

NBOMe-mescaline is a phenethylamine, a broad class of compounds that includes many psychoactive drugs. The core structure of NBOMe-mescaline is based on mescaline, but it includes an additional N-benzylmethoxy group. This group is what classifies the drug as an NBOMe compound. The addition of the NBOMe group significantly increases the potency of the drug compared to mescaline.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The exact mechanism of action of NBOMe-mescaline is not fully understood. However, like other psychedelic phenethylamines, it is believed to act primarily as a serotonin receptor agonist. This means it binds to and activates certain serotonin receptors in the brain, leading to its psychedelic effects. The NBOMe group is thought to enhance the drug's affinity for these receptors, making it more potent than mescaline.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of NBOMe-mescaline can vary widely depending on the dose, the individual's physiology, and the context in which it is used. However, common effects reported by users include visual hallucinations, altered perception of time, euphoria, and introspective experiences. As with all psychedelics, NBOMe-mescaline can also cause negative effects such as anxiety, paranoia, and dangerous changes in heart rate or blood pressure.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of NBOMe-mescaline varies by country. In many places, it is considered a controlled substance due to its psychoactive properties and potential for abuse. However, because it is a relatively new drug, it may not be specifically regulated in all jurisdictions.

Safety[edit | edit source]

As a potent psychedelic, NBOMe-mescaline carries a risk of both physical and psychological harm. Overdoses can lead to serious health problems such as seizures, heart failure, and death. The drug's intense effects can also trigger psychological crises, particularly in individuals with pre-existing mental health conditions.
