Nan Hayworth
Nan Hayworth (born December 14, 1959) is an American politician and ophthalmologist who served as the U.S. Representative for New York's 19th congressional district from 2011 to 2013. She is a member of the Republican Party.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Hayworth was born in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Princeton University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology in 1981. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Weill Cornell Medical College in 1985.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
After completing her medical degree, Hayworth trained in ophthalmology and became a board-certified ophthalmologist. She practiced medicine in Mount Kisco, New York, and was a partner at the Mount Kisco Medical Group.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Hayworth entered politics and ran for the United States House of Representatives in 2010. She won the election and served one term from January 3, 2011, to January 3, 2013. During her tenure, she was known for her conservative stance on various issues, including healthcare, tax policy, and fiscal responsibility.
2010 Election[edit | edit source]
In the 2010 election, Hayworth defeated the incumbent Democrat John Hall to represent New York's 19th congressional district. Her campaign focused on reducing government spending and repealing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
2012 Election[edit | edit source]
Hayworth ran for re-election in 2012 but was defeated by Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney. The campaign was highly competitive, with significant attention on issues such as healthcare reform and economic policy.
Post-Congressional Career[edit | edit source]
After leaving Congress, Hayworth continued to be active in politics and public policy. She has appeared on various media outlets as a political commentator and has been involved with several conservative organizations.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Hayworth is married to Scott Hayworth, a fellow physician, and they have two sons. The family resides in Bedford, New York.
