Nancy-Ann DeParle is an American lawyer and government official who served as the Director of the White House Office of Health Reform under President Barack Obama. She was a key figure in the administration's efforts to pass the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Nancy-Ann DeParle was born in Tennessee. She attended Harvard University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She later attended the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, earning another Bachelor of Arts degree.

Career[edit | edit source]

DeParle began her career as a lawyer before transitioning into public service. She held various positions in the United States Department of Health and Human Services, including Administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration (now the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) during the Clinton administration.

White House Office of Health Reform[edit | edit source]

In 2009, DeParle was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as the Director of the White House Office of Health Reform. In this role, she was instrumental in the development and passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare.

Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy[edit | edit source]

Following her tenure as Director of the White House Office of Health Reform, DeParle served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy from January 2011 to January 2013. In this capacity, she was responsible for coordinating the administration's policy initiatives across various sectors.

Nancy-Ann DeParle is married to Jason DeParle, a journalist. The couple has two children.
