History[edit | edit source]

The National Farm Medicine Center was established in 1981 in response to the high rate of injuries and illnesses associated with farming and agricultural work. The center was created with the goal of reducing these health risks through research, education, and prevention initiatives.

Research[edit | edit source]

The NFMC conducts research on a wide range of topics related to farm health and safety. This includes studies on pesticide exposure, respiratory diseases, hearing loss, and musculoskeletal disorders. The center also conducts research on the unique health risks faced by child farm workers and migrant workers.

Education and Outreach[edit | edit source]

In addition to its research activities, the NFMC also provides education and outreach services to the farming community. This includes the development of safety training programs, the distribution of educational materials, and the organization of community events aimed at promoting farm safety.

Partnerships[edit | edit source]

The NFMC collaborates with a number of other organizations in its work. This includes partnerships with other research institutions, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. These partnerships allow the NFMC to extend its reach and impact in the farming community.
