Common plantar digital nerves
(Redirected from Nervi digitales plantares communes)
Common Plantar Digital Nerves
The Common Plantar Digital Nerves are nerves located in the foot that provide sensory innervation to the skin of the sole and toes. They are branches of the Medial Plantar Nerve and Lateral Plantar Nerve, which are themselves branches of the Tibial Nerve.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
The Common Plantar Digital Nerves branch off from the Medial and Lateral Plantar Nerves in the sole of the foot. Each nerve splits into two Proper Plantar Digital Nerves, which run along the sides of the toes. The nerves provide sensation to the skin of the sole and toes, and also supply the Plantar Interossei Muscles, Dorsal Interossei Muscles, and the Adductor Hallucis Muscle.
Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]
Damage to the Common Plantar Digital Nerves can result in a loss of sensation in the affected areas of the foot. This can be caused by conditions such as Peripheral Neuropathy, Diabetes Mellitus, or injury to the foot. Treatment typically involves addressing the underlying cause of the nerve damage.
