Nicole Lurie
Nicole Lurie is an American physician and public health official who has made significant contributions to the field of public health and emergency preparedness. She served as the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) at the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from 2009 to 2017.

Nicole Lurie was born in Minnesota. She earned her undergraduate degree from University of Pennsylvania and her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Early Career[edit | edit source]
Lurie began her career as a primary care physician and later transitioned into public health. She held various academic and administrative positions, including serving as a professor of medicine and public health at the University of Minnesota.
RAND Corporation[edit | edit source]
Before joining the HHS, Lurie was a senior natural scientist and the Paul O'Neill Alcoa Chair in Policy Analysis at the RAND Corporation. Her work at RAND focused on public health preparedness, health disparities, and the health care safety net.
Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response[edit | edit source]
In 2009, Lurie was appointed by President Barack Obama as the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the HHS. In this role, she was responsible for coordinating the federal response to public health emergencies and disasters. She played a key role in the response to the H1N1 influenza pandemic, the Ebola virus epidemic, and the Zika virus outbreak.
