Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) is a government agency in Norway responsible for maintaining and improving public health. It is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Care Services and is one of the largest public health institutes in Europe.

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health was established in 1948, following the merger of several older health institutions. Its primary goal is to promote good health and quality of life among the population of Norway.

Functions[edit | edit source]

The NIPH conducts research, provides advice to the government, and offers services in a variety of public health areas. These include infectious disease control, mental health, environmental medicine, epidemiology, and health promotion. The institute also plays a crucial role in emergency preparedness and response to public health crises.

The NIPH is organized into departments and centres, each focusing on a specific area of public health. These include the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, the Department of Environmental Medicine, and the Centre for Mental Health.
