A perennial stream or perennial river is a stream or river (watercourse) that has continuous flow in parts of its stream bed all year round. This is in contrast to a seasonal stream, which may cease to flow during dry seasons, or an ephemeral stream, which only flows in direct response to precipitation. Perennial streams are significant in ecology, hydrology, and human habitation for their consistent water provision.
