Pharyngeal recess
Pharyngeal Recess
The Pharyngeal Recess also known as the Rosenmüller's fossa, is a small space in the nasopharynx located posterior to the torus tubarius. It is named after the German anatomist, Johann Christian Rosenmüller.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
The Pharyngeal Recess is a small, deep space located in the nasopharynx, the upper part of the pharynx. It is situated behind the torus tubarius, a cartilaginous structure in the nasopharynx, and is named after Johann Christian Rosenmüller, who first described it.
Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]
The Pharyngeal Recess is clinically significant as it is a common site for the development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a type of cancer that occurs in the nasopharynx. It is also a potential site for the accumulation of adenoid tissue, which can lead to adenoid hypertrophy.
