Piute County is a county located in the U.S. state of Utah. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,438, making it the second-least populous county in Utah. The county seat is Junction, and the largest city is Circleville.

Piute County was created on January 16, 1865, from portions of Beaver and Iron counties. It was named for the Paiute people, a Native American tribe that historically inhabited the region.
Geography[edit | edit source]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 766 square miles (1,980 km²), of which 758 square miles (1,960 km²) is land and 8.0 square miles (21 km²) (1.0%) is water. The county is characterized by its mountainous terrain and is part of the Colorado Plateau.

As of the 2020 census, there were 1,438 people, 563 households, and 398 families residing in the county. The population density was 1.9 people per square mile (0.7/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with small percentages of other races.
